Astek's A3806-PCIe card provides Gen2 (6Gbps) SAS support for Apple® computers running Mac OS® X operating system.
Whether you are a small business or a hollywood studio, the A3806-PCIe can deliver your entire external storage needs from Direct Attached Storage (DAS) to Storage Area Networking (SAN) solutions. The A3806 family provides integrated hardware RAID 0/1/10 for reliability with JBOD arrays, and the ANSI SAS2.0 protocol enables high-bandwidth "wide" port connections to provide up to 40Gbps of throughput from host to RAID appliances with SAS interfaces. Individual users gain the rock-solid reliability and wide compatibility of SCSI to attach disk enclosures, portable drives and docking stations, RAID enclosures from our partners, and JBODs for low-cost bulk storage. For enterprise and large system operators, the A3806 supports SAN capabilities, traditionally reserved only for costly FibreChannel solutions, to the desktop with a protocol that scales from in-expensive passive copper, to active copper and even optical fibre transport capabilities. SAS fully supports multi-initiator, multi-target fabrics for the most demanding scalability applications.
Astek's A3806-PCIe card provides superior performance for external storage to Apple® Mac® Pro workstation computers. The A3806-PCIe card can move 40Gbps of host data over a x8 PCI-Express Gen2 interface (x4 interface operates at 20Gbps), and with 8 lanes of external Gen2 Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) up to 48Gbps of transport to external drives. The A3806-PCIe card blows the doors off IEEE-1394 FireWire® 800 serial bus and USB 2.0 based storage solutions. Beyond bandwidth, the A3806-PCIe card enables nearly unlimited storage, with the use of SAS expanders (see Astek A33606-PCI), a single MacPro workstation can support up to 500 disks, using 2TB disks that is 1 Petabyte (1x10^18 bytes) of storage. The A3806 also preserves your existing investments in external storage, it is fully compatible with existing eSATA external storage solutions such as disk docking stations, and supports SATA, SATA II and SATA 6.0gbps media to ensure compatibility with media from laptop 2.5" HDDs, to enterprise class Solid-State-Disks (SSD) and CD/DVD/BlueRay optical disks.
